THE Nitro TC3 is the new and fast rc touring car from Team Associated. It is a gas powered remote control car capable of 40+ mph out of the box.

The Team Associated Nitro TC3 is the gas powered version of the electric TC3. While electric version was fast, the gas powered "nitro" TC3 is insanely fast.

Below is the specs of the ready to run (rtr), remote control nitro TC3:

Nitro TC3 (NTC3) Recommendation

The Associated Nitro TC3 Ready to Run team car also comes with 22 ball bearings to improve speed and durability.

The retail price from Team Associated is $499.99, but the street price is around $315.00. You will need to buy the glow plug, fuel bottle, and glow starter, which costs only $20. The nitro fuel is around $9.99 per quart.

So for the Associated Nitro TC3 to be completely ready to run, the cost is around $345.

Is it worth it? Let us compare it with the OFNA OB4 Nitro RTR. The OFNA cost around $455, complete with all accessories and fuel. However, OFNA comes with a 2-speed transmission, pushing the OFNA OB4 Nitro rc car past 50+ mph!

The Associated Nitro TC3 RTR comes with a single speed transmission, which can push the car in excess of 35 or 40 mph. You can buy the optional 2-speed transmission ($55) to make the car as fast as the OFNA.

In the end, I find the Associated Nitro TC3 RTR to be slightly better than the OFNA. If I was a beginner, I would definitely buy the nitro TC3. However, as some of you already know, I own an older version of the OFNA touring car. And I like it.

So what to buy? If I were to choose today, I would buy the Associated Nitro TC3 RTR, and just have lots of fun with it. And yes, it is definitely worth it.

The car is so smooth and free on the track and the acceleration and corner speed is great!!!

I got a chance to really work the car last weekend, not under race conditions but some good run time and this thing is very very nice!! The 2 speed took about 4 tanks of fuel to really began to work right and same with the brakes. I can't believe how free the car is! I worked with the conversion for 2 years and could never get it this free. Who ever said AE could never get a shaft drive car as free as a belt car are dead wrong!

Finally got some nice weather so my son and I decided to break in our motors (OS TR) Wow does this car coast.....I can't believe how free wheeling this car is. We never really got a chance to drive it other than up and down the street but so far I am impressed.

Yep...ran the stock setup. I could find no faults with the car. It's really easy to drive with that setup. Some might want a little more steering, but I didn't want to mess with near perfection.

Awesome XL Looks

The Savage XL definitely looks the part of the massive monster truck! The extended wheelbase is the perfect evolution of the Savage design, and the extended chassis and larger tires are a perfect match for the big 'GT Gigante' body!

The wide front grill and huge headlights of the GT Gigante body merge with the flared wheel arches front and rear for a huge 'wow factor,' adding to the impression of huge size and strength! The large Terra Pin tires fit the body perfectly for a scale monster truck look that's sure to intimidate the opposition at your local bashing arena! But the Savage XL isn't about just looking great, the HPI designers went all-out to make sure it performs as good as it looks!

Size Does Matter...

Bigger in every dimension than the standard Savage X, the Savage XL is longer, wider, taller, more ground clearance and tires that are nearly 7" in diameter! It's based on the practically indestructible Savage X chassis and features durability upgrades like thicker 3mm TVP chassis plates, 3mm alloy engine plate, machine-cut steel differential rings and pinion bevel gears, steel spur gear, heavy-duty clutchbell, extra heavy-duty dogbones, larger diff outdrives, machined brake hub, dual fiber disc brakes and much more!

Extra-Long Alloy Chassis

To get the long wheelbase of the Savage XL, the HPI designers developed extended TVP (Twin Vertical Plate) chassis made from 3mm thick 6061 aluminum. 6061-series aluminum is light and strong and provides the strength for stretching the Savage platform to its limits! The chassis has Savage XL logos etched into the chassis to really make it stand out! The engine is fitted to a one-piece engine mount with an extra-thick 3mm engine mounting plate. These are the thickest TVP and engine plate parts ever offered on a Savage monster truck, giving the Savage XL the strength to withstand the torque of the massive Nitro Star K5.9 engine.

Huge Terra Pin All-Terrain Tires

The large Terra Pin tires and TVP style chassis help give the Savage XL massive ground clearance of over 3 inches, allowing it to go over obstacles that would stop other monster trucks in their tracks! The Terra Pin tires stand tall at nearly 7" in diameter to soak up ruts, bumps, and rough landings. The tough spike pattern makes the Terra Pins great in grass and loose dirt, while the chevron center pattern give them directional stability on the harder surfaces. The tall sidewalls provide extra shock absorption and allow the tires to grip as they roll over obstacles.

3 Speed Transmission Installed

The Savage XL features the Savage 3-speed transmission to get the most out of the huge torque from the K5.9 engine. Metal gears and a high-speed 3rd gear give you legendary durability, consistent shifting, quick acceleration and high top speed. The transmission is fully adjustable, so you can choose when the Savage XL will shift into higher gear!

Wide Stance & 17mm Hex Hubs

To widen the stance of the Savage XL we added extended aluminum axles with 17mm hex hubs. These are lightweight and tough, and fit standard 17mm hex monster truck and truggy wheels. Serrated steel wheel nuts grip the wheels to keep them locked in place, making sure that you'll never see a wheel bouncing past your truck!

Tough Suspension Uprights

The XL features uprights designed for the power and weight of this massive beast! Beefier parts mean the truck can take more abuse and punishment, giving you plenty of big-air thrills without breaking parts.

Reinforced All-Metal Differentials

The Savage XL continues the tradition of tough, overbuilt HPI monster trucks with several new drivetrain parts that are a standard part of the Savage XL's arsenal of tricks. Machined steel diff rings and pinion bevel gears are built to take the power of 5.9cc of nitro-burning mayhem. Alloy diff cases and 4-gear diffs with new larger diff outdrives and axles round out the ultra-strong differentials.

Larger Diff Outdrives

Getting the power to the dogbones are large, thick and strong diff outdrive cups. These machined steel outdrives can take the punishment of the K5.9 engine to get you through the toughest driving conditions!

Thick Dogbones

Extra-thick dogbones provide the insurance you'll want when you take the XL into rough country! Thick diameter and large ends add up to a drivetrain that won't let you down when the going gets tough! You'll be able to commit the full power of the K5.9 engine to the ground!

Machined Steel Spur Gear

A machined steel 52T spur gear is the perfect match for the horsepower of the Nitro Star K5.9 engine. With a heavy-duty vented clutchbell spinning the spur gear, you get a huge amount of drivetrain protection with gears that won't strip, melt or break in the roughest of terrain and conditions!

Aluminum Three-Shoe Clutch

The Savage XL uses a 3-shoe aluminum clutch to get the power from the engine to the drivetrain. The aluminum clutch shoes resist wear and engine heat for extra life and consistent launches. There's no more secure way to get the power to the ground!

High Torque Metal Gear Steering Servo

The HPI designers chose a super-strong, extra-tough high torque metal gear servo for the Savage XL. With nearly 9kg of force per centimeter, the SF-50 will turn the large Terra Pin tires for responsive steering at any speed! There's no need to upgrade the servo - this baby's got it all! With bellcrank steering and built-in servo saver, you can be sure that the SF-50 will be fully protected against crash damage or bad landings!

Rechargeable Receiver Pack and Charger

To make sure the servos have all the power they need and then some, we're throwing in an HPI 6 volt 1200mAh NiMH battery pack! This rechargeable pack even includes a convenient wall charger so you can make sure that the XL is always ready to rumble! You don't even need to take the pack out of the truck to charge it - just use the convenient charging jack built into the radio box and you're ready to go!

Easy to Drive!

All this power and durability gets you nowhere unless the truck is easy to drive and can get you through the rough stuff, so the HPI designers made sure that the Savage XL can take everything you can through it at and come through like a champ!

The first things that hit the ground are the huge HPI Terra Pin tires, which feature a tall sidewall and tough spikes to rip through grass and loose dirt. The tall tires make handling the rough stuff easy, and the ground clearance of more than 3 inches gets you over obstacles with room to spare!

The long wheelbase and wide stance of the Savage XL allow it to handle rougher terrain than other Savage monster trucks. When the going gets rough you want the size, power and strength of the Savage XL!

Upgraded Parts

Savage big-block monster trucks are legendary for their toughness in the most extreme conditions, and the XL goes even further. With suspension and drivetrain parts designed to take the load of the biggest-ever Nitro Star engine, the Savage XL has what it takes to survive the toughest conditions!

The Savage XL has loads of features that make it easier to drive than shorter-wheelbase monster trucks, while making it tougher and more durable for jumping and in off-road conditions. Tall all-terrain tires, 8 shocks and plush double-wishbone suspension combine for reliable and predictable handling. Add up the heavy duty suspension parts, strong bracing points and the famous Savage durability of the standard parts and you get one tough machine!

Like the rest of the Savage range, the XL uses a total of 8 oil-filled, long-stroke, coil over shocks to handle the suspension duties. Mounted at the bottom to the suspension arms and at the top to Savage X-style shock towers, the shocks can be easily adjusted to vary their position to suit your driving style or terrain. With easy ride height adjustment, you'll be able to set up the XL low for racing and high speeds runs, or quickly raise it for the rough stuff!

With heavy-duty bracing of all suspension parts, the hits can just keep on coming. Tough steel hinge pins and aluminum braces work with the high-impact nylon of the skid plates, bumpers and lower suspension parts to give the Savage XL a rock-solid foundation for ultimate mayhem! Just like the other Savage monster trucks, the XL uses double wishbone suspension to get the power to the ground and soak up jumps and more. K5.9 Engine

At the heart of the Savage XL is the monstrous Nitro Star K5.9 engine! This 5.9cc (.36 cubic inch) powerplant gives the XL loads of torque for turning the giant tires. The K5.9 engine delivers the muscle and grunt that you'll want for powering the Savage XL over any type of terrain and through any obstacle! The massive K5.9 powerband supplies the torque for getting the XL up to speed quickly, and the curved manifold and aluminum tuned pipe get the most power out of the engine, and a giant heatsink head so you won't have to worry about overheating! The K5.9 is fitted with a Roto-Start 2 electric starter system for easy starting. A vented heavy-duty clutchbell and aluminum 3-shoe clutch are standard equipment for tough and reliable power transfer.

Tuned Exhaust System

With a curved rear-exhaust manifold directing exhaust gases to the polished aluminum 2-chamber tuned pipe, the specialized K5.9 exhaust system produces loads of horsepower that just demands to be used! The exhaust system is spring-loaded to enable it to withstand the brutal landings of big-air jumps and driving over any type of terrain, and is designed just for the K5.9 engine to produce maximum punch and monstrous top speeds!

Tough ABC Construction

With true ABC construction (Aluminum case and piston, Brass Chrome-plated cylinder), the Nitro Star K5.9 delivers massive torque and horsepower and long engine life. The three-needle carburetor uses a 9.5mm inlet to get in as much fuel as possible and uses a composite body to prevent heat from the engine case affecting the fuel supply. A huge flow-through finned aluminum heatsink head keeps things cool, and even features sweet laser-etched logos!

Dual-Stage Air Filter

A dual stage pre-oiled air filter is used to keep dirt and fine particles of dust from entering the engine. The air filter is securely mounted on a 90-degree rubber tube so it is placed in the perfect position and stay in place through any type of driving.

Roto Start 2 Installed

Get things going quickly with the Roto Start 2 electric starting system pre-installed onto the back of the engine. The Roto Start 2 replaces the standard pullstarter with a handheld shaft-drive starting unit so you don't have to deal with pullstarting the engine by hand. Just install a charged 7.2v stick-pack battery into the Roto Start 2 hand unit, insert the shaft into the back of the engine, press the button and you're off! It doesn't get any easier!

High Quality 2.4GHz Spread Spectrum Radio

The reliable and sturdy HPI TF-20 2.4GHz radio controls the Savage XL, giving you superb control in a well-designed pistol-grip radio! The steering wheel design makes you feel as if you're actually driving the truck, and the trigger-style throttle and brake controls provide you with finger-sensitive action when accelerating and stopping! The radio transmitter features DSSS technology that eliminates the need for frequency crystals so you can drive with your friends without worrying about frequency conflicts or interference. The TF-20 has servo reverse switches, easy access to radio adjustments and simple AA battery replacement.

The steering for the XL is handled by the tough metal-gear HPI SF-50 high-torque servo, which has plenty of grunt to turn the front wheels at all speeds. A truck this size needs the power and torque of a strong servo, and the SF-50 is just the ticket. To make sure the servos have plenty of juice, the Savage XL includes a rechargeable HPI 1200mAh NiMH receiver battery pack and charger. Recharging is easy with the charging jack built into the radio box - just remove the rubber plug and insert the charging plug.

The HPI TF-20 radio gives you long-range and reliable communication with your truck. If you ever want to upgrade your electronics you'll find it extremely easy, because all of the electronics are standard-size RC components with standardized connectors. The components can be upgraded or replaced whenever you like, or even moved into a different RC vehicle in the future. The Savage XL will accept any standard-size servos and any 4- or 5-cell receiver battery pack.

The Savage Flux HP is equipped with tough option parts to help it handle the power of the Flux Tork 2200 motor. The centerpiece of the Savage Flux HP is the Flux system, consisting of the Tork 2200 motor and Blur electronic speed control - both impressive in their own right, but together they form an unstoppable power force!

The Flux Tork 2200 features a motor case with massive machined cooling fins that really make it look the part of an all-out power plant! With a 5mm motor shaft it can fit optional pinion gears so you can get even MORE top speed for those insane runs, or gear it down a bit for increased acceleration on the track. The Tork 2200 is mounted to the 3mm 7075 aluminum motor plate with two 8mm billet machined aluminum clamps so it won't move or shift under the immense amount of torque of the brushless motor.

Controlling the Tork 2200 is the Flux Blur electronic speed control, the most powerful brushless speed controller we could find. With the ability to handle twin 3S LiPo batteries (that's a total of 6S LiPo power!) it can deal with anything the Tork 2200 motor can dish out! 6mm bullet connectors secure the motor wires for loss-free connection to the 10-gauge wires, and to connect to each battery pack we've attached real Deans connectors for zero power loss and total efficiency. We figured why re-invent the wheel and release our own connector when the best is already available? Topping off the versatility of the Flux Blur is an integrated cooling fan, which allows the electronic speed control to operate at its ideal temperature.

Finally, you have the ability to easily connect it to your computer for total programming control! With our #100573 USB Programming Kit you can connect the Blur to any Windows-based PC to control all the various facets of its power delivery, braking, throttle curves, battery cut-off and much more. You can also save various profiles to have profiles for racing, insane speed runs, stunts, fun running and more.

With the Flux Tork 2200 and Blur combo, you get all the power you can desire, with custom tuning and multiple battery handling thrown in for fun! You'll have to experience it to believe it!

The chassis for the Savage Flux HP is very similar to the nitro-powered Savage that we all know and love - the backbone consists of the TVP (Twin Vertical Plate) design, formed from two 2.5mm aluminum plates, with the diff cases at either end providing significant stiffness and the transmission casing and motor plate forming load-bearing members of the structure.

Extra-Low CG

The Flux Tork 2200 motor sits extremely low in the chassis, providing as low a center of gravity (CG) as possible, and the twin battery packs ride on the outside of the TVP chassis for easy access. The low CG gives you extra control and cornering ability, allowing you to rule the corners on the track and pull off spectacular stunts to impress and wow your friends!

Twin Battery Power

Brushless motors like the Flux Tork 2200 are already super powerful with just one battery compared to their older brushed ancestors, so you can imagine what two battery packs will be able to provide! The Savage Flux HP can take up to 16 NiMH cells (split up with 2 x 6-cell, 2 x 7-cell or 2 x 8-cell battery packs) or 2 LiPo packs of either 2S 7.4v or 3S 11.1v construction. The battery boxes feature vents to keep the batteries cool, and we suggest using official Deans zero-loss battery plugs.

Flux Tork 2200 Motor

The Flux Tork 2200 motor is one of the biggest and most powerful brushless motors available, and was selected specifically for its massive power delivery and voltage handling. It can take up to 25 volts of power, delivering hordes of power - plenty of juice for instant wheelies and standing backflips! The Tork 2200 is held in place with 2 machined 8mm billet aluminum motor clamps secured to the 3mm 7075 alloy motor mount to prevent it moving once the gear mesh is set. Option pinion gears are available to fine-tune the speed and torque delivery!

Flux Blur ESC

With the capacity to handle up to 6S LiPo power and more NiMH cells than can actually fit in the Savage Flux HP, the Flux Blur electronic speed control can take anything you can possibly throw at it and keep coming back for more! Fully programmable with our #100573 USB Programming Kit and fitted with fat 6mm bullet connectors, the Blur delivers power to the Tork 2200 motor in massive gulps of voltage while the integrated cooling fan keeps everything at a reasonable operating temperature.

All-Metal Transmission Gears

The Savage Flux HP features all-metal transmission gears to make sure that power delivery is uninterrupted and every jolt of power gets from the motor to the tires efficiently and with no worry of damage to the gears. The whole drivetrain runs on rubber-sealed ball bearings for optimal efficiency, for extra-long runtimes and mega-fast top speeds!

XL Tough Suspension

The Savage Flux HP features the uprights designed for the larger tires and weight of the Savage XL, giving you the assurance that you'll be able to deal out the same abuse that all the other nitro-powered Savage trucks can handle! Beefy parts mean the Savage Flux HP can take the abuse and punishment of extreme off-road driving.

Machined Diff Gears

Equipped with #102246 Machined Super Heavy Duty Bevel Gears, you can be sure that the diffs of the Savage Flux HP will last for a long time, taking the punishment of the Flux Tork 2200 motor! The entire drivetrain can be upgraded with all the option parts available to nitro Savage owners, letting you upgrade and bulletproof your truck as desired.

Thick Super Heavy-Duty Dogbones

Extra-thick, super duty dogbones provide the durability you'll want when you take the Savage Flux HP into rough country! The thick diameter and larger ends add up to a drivetrain that won't let you down when the going gets tough! You'll be able to commit the full power of the Tork 2200 motor to the ground without worrying about drivetrain damage!

Machined Steel Spur Gear

A machined steel spur gear is the perfect match for the power of the Tork 2200 motor. The pinion gear spins on a 5mm motor shaft and optional pinion gears will be available after the Savage Flux HP is launched. With the all-metal drivetrain running from the motor to transmission, and from the gearbox to the diffs, you get a huge amount of drivetrain protection with gears that won't strip, melt or break! You'll have security and peace of mind that your truck will not only perform superbly, but last as long as possible in the roughest of terrain and conditions!

Big Bore Nylon Shocks

Four huge Big Bore shocks give the suspension action you need to get out and blast through the roughest of tracks or off-road terrain. With slick nylon bodies they are lightweight and strong, with almost no friction 'stiction' between the shock piston and shock body. The extra-large capacity gives you extra control and damping action so you have the driving feel that makes off-road driving so much fun!

SF-50 High Torque Metal Gear Steering Servo

HPI designers chose a super-strong, extra-tough high torque metal gear servo. The SF-50 will get the GT-2 tires turning easily at any speed! There's no need to upgrade the servo - this baby's got it all! With the bellcrank steering and built-in servo saver, you can be sure that the SF-50 will be fully protected against crash damage!

Savage Wheelie Bar Included

The #85245 is included as standard, ready for you to bolt on in case you want to pull impressive wheelies to wow your friends. Want to pull off jaw-dropping standing backflips without a ramp? Leave the wheelie bar off, we don't mind - just be prepared for your friends to ask for the controller! It's OK if you say no and tell them to get their own, though!

All-Terrain Tires

High Quality 2.4GHz Spread Spectrum Radio

The reliable and sturdy HPI TF-20 2.4GHz radio controls the Savage Flux HP, giving you superb control in a well-designed pistol-grip radio! The steering wheel design makes you feel as if you're actually driving the truck, and the trigger-style throttle and brake controls provide you with finger-sensitive action when accelerating and stopping! The radio transmitter features DSSS technology that eliminates the need for frequency crystals so you can drive with your friends without worrying about frequency conflicts or interference. The TF-20 has servo reverse switches, easy access to radio adjustments and simple AA battery replacement.

The RF-20 receiver takes the commands from the transmitter and transfers them reliably to the Flux Blur ESC and the steering servo. Taking care of the steering duties for the Savage Flux HP is the tough metal-gear HPI SF-50 high-torque servo, which has plenty of grunt to turn the front wheels at low and high speeds, in any sort of terrain. A truck this size needs the power and torque of a strong servo, and the SF-50 is just the ticket.

The HPI TF-20 radio gives you long-range and reliable communication with your truck. Technology is advancing (and quickly) which has made the RC world evolve from what it used to be just a few years ago. There's now RC racing and showcasing events that are similar to Nascar, a number of different RC car magazines, and not to mention a wide selection of RC cars and trucks available.

If you're new to radio controlled cars, then we'll cover the basics for you here. There are three main types of RC cars available:

There are RC cars that you can get a local store - which are called 'toy grade' RC cars, and then there are the 'hobby grade' RC cars. Hobby grade, which are featured on this website, are used by both beginners and professionals because they offer quality, durability and will last you a lot longer than any toy grade RC car.

In addition, you can get remote control cars in two ways:

  • assemble it yourself, which leaves room for complete customization.
  • RTR (ready-to-run). Quick and simple right out of the box.

If you're looking on how to build your own RC car, it’s a common preconception that having custom built RC cars are faster than the RTR vehicles. RTR cars come in either electric powered or nitro fuelled and can reach speeds of well over 80 miles per hour! In fact, they are the standard. If you're new to RC cars, then Ready-To-Run is what you want. RTR cars and trucks are great for the first-time remote control car buyers as well as professionals since they require little additional work to make them ready for on-road or off-road operation. If you do want to build a custom RC car though, we suggest getting remote control car kits to start you on your way.

If you are looking for a remote control car that you can full-out customize though, you should consider choosing a car that has a wide variety of RC car parts and accessories that will allow you to create a car to your own specifications.
